& Poor's 500 climbed to their highest closes of the year so far, while the Nasdaq composite fell. The Dow came to within 50 points of 13,000, a milestone it hasn't crossed since May 2008.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 45.79 points, or 0.4 percent, to 12,949.87.
The S&P 500 rose 3.19 points, or 0.2 percent, to 1,361.23.
The Nasdaq composite fell 8.07 points, or 0.37 percent, to 2,951.78.
For the week:
The Dow rose 148.64 points, or 1.2 percent.
The S&P 500 rose 18.59 points, or 1.4 percent.
The Nasdaq composite rose 47.90 points, or 1.7 percent.

The Dow is up 732.31 points, or 6 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 103.63 points, or 8.2 percent.
The Nasdaq composite is up 346.63 points, or 13.3 percent.
