It has been a while since Toyota launched an all-new vehicle in India. So, the announcement from the company that the Fortuner will soon be here was welcome news.
The Fortuner is a sports utility vehicle (SUV) that is built on the IMV platform, the same platform that was also used for the Innova MPV (multi-purpose vehicle). Because of the versatility and the low-cost nature of the platform, Toyota has been able to exploit the potential of these vehicles, especially in South East Asian countries such as Thailand,
Indonesia and emerging markets in other parts of the world.
After much speculation about its launch, the Fortuner will finally come to the Indian market within the next five months. According to company officials, the Fortuner will be brought to India as a knocked down unit and will be assembled at Toyota Kirloskar Motor's (TKM) plant in Bidadi, near Bengaluru.
