Chhattisgarh was carved out of Madhya Pradesh, but investors often tend to forget this fact. Thus, at Chhattisgarh’s first-ever global investors’ meet, an industrialist with strong Madhya Pradesh connections addressed Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh as Shivraj Singh, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. If this was not enough, he praised the Madhya Pradesh government’s industrial policy and suggested the Chhattisgarh government should follow the example of its parent state in encouraging investment. Not surprisingly, these comments did not go down well with Raman Singh. In his reply, he bluntly refused to follow Madhya Pradesh’s investment policies, stating that they were not required. What he failed to recognise is that many industrialists had attended the Madhya Pradesh investors’ meet just 10 days before, so they were bound to make comparisons.
