Indian Ceramic Society to ink pact with US counterpart

The Indian Ceramic Society (ICS) will be inking a pact with the American Ceramic Society for advance technology and knowledge sharing, training and research.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard will be signed by the two bodies on Friday on the second day of the 76th Annual Conference of ICS to celebrate 100 years of ceramic industry in Gujarat. The ICS annual conference began on Thursday.

"We will be signing MoU with the American Ceramic Society (ACS) on Thursday collaboration in areas of technology, research, training and experience sharing," said G G Trivedi, chairman of ICS organising committee.

He said that this would help 2000-odd members of the society in gaining technological insights and better training opportunities. "As part of the collaboration the ceramic center in the US will call people from the ceramic industry in India for training and knowledge sharing as and when required," Trivedi said.

ICS is an apex body of ceramic manufactures which was established in 1928 under the guidance of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya. Its primary objective is to promote advancement of ceramic science, arts and technology and encourage cooperation among those engaged in manufacturing of ceramic products.

As many as 75 per cent of ceramic products produced in the country come from the units located in Morbi, Rajkot.

Over 400 units in Morbi has more than Rs 4,000 crore of investment.

These units export goods worth Rs 50 crore per month and give employment to nearly 300,000 workers.
