Social activist Arvind Kejriwal, who recently flagged links between real estate major DLF and Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, has found a new supporter. The apartment owners’ association at Gurgaon’s Belaire and Park Place projects, which had moved the Competition Commission of India (CCI) against DLF last year, has joined hands with Kejriwal to bring to light quid pro quos between realtors and politicians/bureaucrats.

On Thursday, members of the association met Kejriwal, updating him on the unfair conditions imposed by developers. In August 2011, CCI had imposed a penalty of Rs 630 crore on DLF, based on the association’s complaint. The case is pending with the Competition Appellate Tribunal.

Kejriwal has invited representatives of the apartment owners’ association to share a platform with him on November 1 at a demonstration in Manesar. The event would focus on the nexus between Vadra and DLF, among other issues. “Kejriwal has asked us to raise our voice against this (nexus), join him in the demonstration and take the podium on November 1,” said a member of the Federation of Apartments Owners Association (FAOA), which would be formally launched tomorrow.

The association of buyers, however, clarified it was only partnering Kejriwal to protest against the unfair practices of builders, not for any political agenda.

Amit Jain, a member of the federation, said, “We have documented proof of developers selling parking area separately.” Referring to a particular case, he said the Town and Country Planning licence stated parking was a common area. However, according to the registrar’s office, it was a dwelling unit. “So, developers are making 50-100 per cent profits through the nexus of builders and politicians/bureaucrats,” Jain said.

At Manesar, Kejriwal is likely to campaign against the bending of rules to buy land from farmers at cheap rates, before selling these in parts.
