| Sensex posts biggest gains in 3 months | SIFY | |
| After opening on a firm note and moving in a tight band for a while, the market rallied sharply and ended with strong gains on Monday. A firm trend in global markets and bargain hunting after recent losses lifted stocks. The Sensex ended at 19,126.28 (provisional), with a gain of 248.32 points or 1.32%. The Nifty closed at 5781.40, up 82.90 points or 1.45%. Realty stocks rebounded sharply and mostly ended with strong gains. Metal stocks bounced back as well. Bank, automobile, capital goods, IT and oil stocks too mostly ended notably higher. Pharma, FMCG stocks moved up after staying subdued early on. Sugar stocks rallied on hopes of easing of curbs. Select power and consumer durables stocks moved up. Midcap and smallcap stocks were back in demand after recent heavy losses. The market breadth was fairly strong at close. |
