A sudden sharp fall in the markets took its toll on the Smart Portfolios in the week under review. The Smart Portfolios benchmark index portfolio value declined 2.3 per cent to Rs 9.44 lakh in the last five trading days. Meanwhile, the benchmark index is now down 5.7 per cent at Rs 9.44 lakh.
Shishir Bajpai and Vinay Khattar were the two active fund managers, and interestingly, both of them were net buyers. While Bajpai net bought shares worth Rs 1.55 lakh, Khattar was net buyer of stocks to the tune of Rs 33,000.
AJAY PARMAR, HEAD RESEARCH INSTITUTIONAL EQUITIES, EMKAY
Ajay Parmar continued to remain on the sidelines, and his portfolio this week saw a sharp cut of 4.6 per cent as against the 2.3 per cent fall in the benchmark portfolio. Of the 19 stocks in his portfolio, 14 are trading below his cost price. Parmar’s net worth has dropped below the Rs 10-lakh corpus, to Rs 9.59 lakh, down over four per cent. With just Rs 1.11 lakh in cash, and two months to go for the Smart Portfolios season to come to an end on September 3, 2011, it would be interesting to see how Parmar looks to turnaround his portfolio.
