“The Nano is in a different segment. Congratulations! Tatas have done great. We are not entering the segment,” said R.C. Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, at the sidelines of a CII event.

He said that the launch of Nano will expand the market size.

When asked to react on whether the features offered by Nano were equivalent to M-800 and at a lower cost, Bhargava said, “Possibly. I haven’t driven the car.”

In April-February of this fiscal, Maruti 800 sales have fallen 25 per cent to 46,953 units.

At the same event, Pawan Munjal, Managing Director, Hero Honda, said that the Nano would have not have any major impact on two-wheelers due to the price gap between the car and the entry level bike.

On sales outlook for the year ending March 2009, Munjal said that the company will close the year with a double digit growth.
