On International Women's Day, McDonalds flippped its golden arches. The logo that makes the "M" was converted into a "W". The plan was to let the resultant "W" stand for "Women".

"In celebration of women everywhere, and for the first time in our brand history, we flipped our iconic arches for International Women's Day on March 8 in honor of the extraordinary accomplishments of women everywhere and especially in our restaurants," said McDonald's Global Chief Diversity Officer Wendy Lewis in a statement..

CNN however found that the arches were flipped only at one location in the United States.

The fast-food chain's idea backfired, forcing it to eat its own dose of a cheap-grilled idea. Many on twitter labelled the idea as a cheap PR stunt.
