Rohan Murthy, son of Infosys’ chairman N R Narayana Murthy, today married Lakshmi Venu, only daughter of Venu Srinivasan, chairman of TVS Motor, and Mallika Srinivasan, chairman of Tractors and Farm Equipment (TAFE).
The high-profile wedding was attended by prominent figures from the world of politics and government, apart from business. The star-studded event was attended by senior BJP leader L K Advani, Union ministers P Chidambaram, Kamal Nath, Anand Sharma and G K Vasan besides top corporate honchos. Infosys former chairman and Unique Identification Development Authority of India president Nandan Nilekani, Air Deccan founder-chairman G R Gopinath and Godrej Group chairman Adi Godrej were among the guests.
The marriage was held between 9 am and 10 am in traditional style at Lakshmi Venu's maternal grandfather's house here. Media representatives were not allowed into the venue, the same one where Venu Srinivasan wed Mallika in 1982. Film art director Thotta Tharani did the interiors.
There will be two receptions, one tomorrow in this city and the next on the coming Sunday, at Bangalore.
The couple met through a common friend and got engaged in a private ceremony in August 2010.
Lakshmi Venu, 26, was recently appointed vice president (global business development and strategy) for Sundaram Clayton Ltd, the holding company of TVS Motors. She is to also continue as director-strategy of the company, which she has been since last September. Rohan Murthy, 27, is a Microsoft Fellow, doing a doctorate in computer science from Harvard University. He is an engineering graduate from Cornell, having done his schooling in Bangalore.
