By their own admission, Chhattisgarh’s policemen are not in a good health to fight Naxal guerillas. Seventy-eight inspectors and sub-inspectors transferred to the Naxal-infested Bastar region have refused to join citing health problems. Most of them have cited diabetes and high blood pressure. Several others, however, have provided novel excuses: they were allergic to certain herbs and trees found in the dense forests where the rebels were hiding. Their bosses will probably find it hard to remedy this "allergy".
