Nissan may join Renault-Daimler tie-up talks - Nikkei

Japan's Nissan Motor may join talks between Renault and Daimler, the Nikkei business daily reported on Wednesday.

Shares of Renault and Daimler rose after reports that the two car makers are in talks about an equity tie-up as part of a possible longer-term partnership.

Asked about the reports, Renault's chief executive Carlos Ghosn, who is also head of its Japanese alliance partner Nissan, said only that he was open to equity exchanges.

Renault holds a 44 percent stake in Nissan.

The Financial Times had said in its Tuesday edition that the two companies were in talks about taking equity stakes in each other to forge long-term cooperation, citing two unnamed sources.

Nissan spokesman Yosuke Nagatomo declined to comment.

Shares in Nissan rose 2.3 percent to 772 yen, outperforming a 1.1 percent gain in the benchmark Nikkei average.
