Mumbai, Dec 3 (IANS) Oil marketing companies have resumed new subsidised cooking gas connections, which had been stopped for some time, in several Indian states, an official said here Monday.

Prospective customers in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jharkhand, Manipur, Tripura and Puducherry will be entitled for the new subsidized cooking gas connections, on the lines of Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

In a statement, IndianOil Executive Director N. Srikumar said that prospective customers who have registered for new connections till Oct 15 with the distributors of Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp (BPC) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp, and who do not possess a connection, will now be entitled to avail a new subsidized connection.

The lists of the prospective eligible customers in these states have been made available with the concerned distributors of the three OMCs.

Srikumar said that even the respective distributors would also send out separate intimations to the customers, who would then be required to complete the relevant formalities to avail of their new connections.

The OMCs would also initiate legal proceedings against those customers who already had existing connections but had applied for a new LPG connection. Srikumar warned that the existing connections of such fraudulent customers would also be cancelled.

In a related development, the OMCs have extended by a month, till Dec 31, the Know Your Customer deadline for those customers holding multiple connections, to submit details of their connections.
