ONGC, CPCL, SAIL get Corporate Social Responsibility award

The Tamil Nadu government today presented its Corporate Social Responsibility Award,the "first of its kind initiative" among Indian states, to corporate giants including ONGC, CPCL, SAIL and Orchid Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals, among others.

Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin gave away a cash incentive of Rs five lakh and certificates to each of the companies here, commending their CSR activities in different spheres, including agriculture, education, women's empowerment and new and renewable energy among others.

A state government press release said Stalin had made an announcement in this regard in the Assembly in 2007, saying corporare firms, PSUs and NGOs with good record in the past five years were eligible for the award. It was a "first of its kind initiative" among Indian states, it said.

ONGC, CPCL, Saint Gobain Glass India Ltd, SAIL, Orchid Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Ltd and Sri Ramalinga Mills were awarded the Corporate Social Responsibilty Award for the years 2007-08 and 2009-09, the release added.
