Chennai: Will India become a high income country in 30 years?
The plenary session II on India 2039 -- An affluent society in one generation discussed the bottlenecks the country may face in becoming an economic super power in the next 30 years.

Anil Sood, Co-Editor, India 2039: An Affluent Society in One Generation, is optimistic on India becoming a high income country by 2039. The key challenges in achieving the above milestone are: inequities, urbanisation/service provision, environmental quality, infrastructure, higher education/ technology and innovation, energy and regional prosperity.
In his address, Sood said India will become the second largest economy in the world by the year 2039, and the country's footprint in the global economy will exceed 17%. Also, the global output will rise from the current level of $62 trillion to $200 trillion.
Sood added that India's investment in infrastructure must double to 10-11% of the country's GDP from the current 4-5% to reach the above feat.
Poongothai Aladi Aruna, Minister of Information Technology, Government of Tamil Nadu, said that India will become a superpower in 2039 as long as the country focuses on three basic rights -- education, health and agricultural products.
