PM hopes for smooth Budget session

The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, said on Wednesday the Government was looking forward to the Budget session of Parliament with "great expectation" and expressed hope that the House will function smoothly. "We look forward to this session of Parliament with great expectation," Dr Singh told reporters here.

Dr Singh said he believed that all political parties want Parliament to function "effectively and smoothly" and on behalf of the Government, he extended "fullest cooperation" in the smooth functioning of Parliament. "Parliament is the forum where debate can take place. It will be our sincere desire that Parliament functions smoothly." Parliament will be in session from Thursday till August 7.

During the session, the Railway Budget would be presented to the Lok Sabha on July 3 and the General Budget for 2009-10 on July 6. The Economic Survey would be presented on Thursday.
