1) What have been your biggest worries recently - money-wise?
Two things worry me. First is, whether I am taking the right decisions with respect to my investments, so that I can have a comfortable life after retirement and the second thing is medical expenses.
2) What are your biggest expectations from this budget?
Incentives for domestic savings:
Indians, I believe, are more saving-oriented. However, of late, most of us are unable or unwilling to save much. It is because of rising inflation and stagnant budgetary incentives. Introduction of clear standard deduction of gross income, subject to a ceiling, may mitigate the tax burden and increase surplus in the hands of tax payers, instead of increasing the tax slabs.
Medical expenses are constantly increasing and need serious consideration. The government should bring in a centralised system to regulate hospitals and healthcare facilities, so that people belonging to all strata can tackle health issues at minimal cost. Also, budgetary allocation for rural health, attention to district hospitals in terms of staff, medicines as well as facilities is in need.
Bring down the cost of education, transport, food price, etc.
3) How would you rate the Modi government so far? Have they been all talk and little action?
I will rate them 5 out of 10 as I am a bit confused. I do not see much change, but it might take some more time for the government to improve things.
4) Any novel ideas for the finance minister?
