Sensex ends flat

The market started off on a firm note on positive global cues, but ended flat after a choppy ride.

Heavy selling in Reliance Industries and a few other heavyweights dragged down the indices.

The Sensex, which rose to around 18,870, ended at 18,735.17 (provisional) with a loss of 9.76 points.

The Nifty closed at 5691.20, up 2.25 points.

Rate sensitive automobile, banking and realty stocks attracted buyers once again.

FMCG, metal and healthcare stocks were among the other notable gainers.

Capital goods,power and PSU stocks ended on a mixed note.

Information technology and oil stocks declined.

Midcap and smallcap stocks moved higher after a subdued start, but failed to hold gains.

The market breadth was neutral.
