After a choppy ride, the Indian stock market ended modestly higher on Thursday.
Following a firm start, the market traded in positive territory till about an hour to the close, faltered into the red and swiftly recovered to close higher.
A lack of fresh triggers rendered the mood cautious.
The Sensex ended at 21,072.22 (provisional) with a gain of 39.51 points or 0.19%.
The Nifty closed at 6278.05, up 9.65 points or 0.15%.
Power, bank and consumer durables stocks saw some buying.
A few stocks from metal and IT sectors posted notable gains.
PSU oil stocks had a good outing.
Healthcare, capital goods, realty and FMCG stocks ended on a mixed note.
Automobile stocks were mostly subdued.
Midcap stocks came off their highs, although some of them ended on a strong note.
Smallcap stocks had a good outing.
The market breadth was strong.
