The Nifty closed at 6347.95, up 9 points or 0.14%.
Capital goods stocks had a good outing, thanks to impressive results from Larsen & Toubro.
Consumer durables stocks were the other notable gainers.
Bank, realty, power, IT, FMCG and pharma stocks ended on a mixed note.
Oil, metal and automobile stocks traded weak.
Midcap and smallcap stocks were mostly subdued.
The market breadth was slightly weak.
