IT stocks, led by heavyweights Infosys, TCS and Wipro, traded firm right through the session.

Realty, capital goodsand bank stocks mostly ended on a firm note.

Power, oil, FMCG and consumer durables stocks too closed higher.

Select pharma stocks moved up.

Automobile stocks edged up after a weak start, but failed to hold at higher levels, amid mixed sales data.

Metal stocks were mostly subdued.

The market breadth was positive.
