Diesel hike, QE3 boost Sensex, Nifty

The Sensex ended at 18,658.01 (provisional) with a loss of 146.74 points or 0.78%.

The Nifty closed at 5671.45, down 36.60 points or 0.64%.

A lower earnings forecast from Infosys triggered a sell-off at the counter and dragged down the market in early trade.

The market rebounded post release of the industrial production data but faltered again.

IT, realty, auto and bank stocks drifted lower.

Capital goods and power stocks too closed on a slightly weak note.

Oil, FMCG and metal stocks ended mixed.

Consumer durables and healthcare stocks found some support.

Midcap and smallcap stocks were mostly subdued.

The market breadth was slightly negative.
