Growth concerns, political uncertainty and a lack of positive triggers dragged down stocks once again and pushed the Sensex and Nifty to a negative close.

The Sensex ended at 18,768.96 (provisional) with a loss of 115.23 points or 0.61%.

The Nifty closed at 5656.95, down 37.45 points or 0,66%.

Realty stocks ended sharply lower.

Automobile, power and capital goods stocks too mostly closed with sharp losses.

Oil, metal, healthcare and PSU stocks did not fare any better either.

FMCG and bank stocks found some support but came off their highs.

Select IT and consumer durables stocks fared reasonably well.

Midcap and smallcap stocks retreated after some early strength.

The market breadth was weak.
