Sensex, Nifty headed for another positive close

The market is well on course to end on a firm note today, extending gains to a second successive session, as buying continues at several front line counters.

Though global cues are mixed, traders are picking up stocks in the Indian market, largely on short-covering ahead of derivatives expiry. Movements are a bit listless at a few counters.

The Sensex is up 119 points or 0.46% at 26,079.78. Meanwhile, the Nifty50 is up 40.40 points or 0.5% at 8042.70.

Realty stocks, which had suffered some sharp losses in recent sessions, are among the top gainers today. The BSE Realty index is up as much as 3.2% now. Indiabulls Real Estate, a big loser in the past few sessions, is up nearly 7% now.


NBCC is up 6.6%, DLF is gaining 5.5%, Unitech is up 4.7% and HDIL is rising 3.7%. Prestige is gaining 2.5%, while Omaxe and Godrej Properties are modestly higher.

Among metal stocks, Vedanta is up 4.75% on huge volumes. Hindalco is gaining 3.75%, Tata Steel is up 3.5% and Hindustan Zinc is up 2.2%. SAIL and NMDC are also up sharply, while JSW Steel and Coal India are modestly higher.

Capital goods sector heavyweight Larsen & Toubro is up 3% on strong results. Reliance Defence & Engineering, Havells India, Lakshmi Machine Works, Greaves Cotton, Praj Industries and Wabag are up 1% - 4%.
