The Nifty closed at 5988.40, down 27.75 points or 0.46%. Capital goods, realty and FMCG stocks declined sharply in the final hour.Consumer durables and bank stocks too mostly ended notably lower.
Power stocks lost ground.
IT, oil an automobile stocks ended well off their highs.
Metal and pharma stocks too failed to hold at higher levels.
While midcaps ended on a subdued note, smallcap stocks outperformed.
The market breadth was slightly weak.
