A few blue chip stocks have come off their higher levels, but with a few others including, Infosys Technologies (3.75%), Ranbaxy Laboratories (3.7%), Mahindra & Mahindra (3.6%), Hindalco (3.5%), Grasim Industries (3.15%), Tata Power (3.1%) and ICICI Bank (3%) trading firm with sharp gains, the Sensex remains fairly well placed in the positive territory in early afternoon trade.
BHEL, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Larsen & Toubro, Sterlite Industries, Hindustan Unilever, Wipro, ACC, Maruti Suzuki and Tata Steel are the other impressive gainers in the Sensex which is up with a sharp gain of 119.12 points or 0.79% at 15,127.80. HDFC, Tata Motors, HDFC Bank and DLF are up with modest gains.
The Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange is up with a gain of 21.70 points or 0.47% at 4594.35. Earlier, the Sensex and Nifty had surged to 15,174.93 and 4615.50 respectively on some hectic buying across the board.

Bajaj Hindustan, Bannari Amman Sugars, Triveni Engineering, Renuka Sugars, Balrampur Chini, Dhampore Sugars, Dharani Sugars and EID Parry are all up with handsome gains.
Junior Nifty stock MRPL has vaulted nearly 13% to Rs 85.50. Bharat Electronics is up by around 7.25% at Rs 1410. Ashok Leyland, Cummins India, Apollo Tyres, Adani Enterprises, Chennai Petroleum Corporation, Bank of Baroda, Raymond, Indian Overseas Bank, Indian Hotels, Wockhardt Pharma, Syndicate Bank, Vijaya Bank, Canara Bank, Power Finance Corporation, Dr Reddy's Laboratories and Bank of India are among the other prominent gainers in the index.
Midcap stocks Bharat Earth Movers, Info Edge, JM Financial Services, Asian Star, Omaxe, Aban Offshore, Zee News, Berger Paints, Spice Telecom, Nav Bharat Ventures, JP Hydropower, Dena Bank, Maharashtra Seamless and Thomas Cook have posted strong gains today.
