Sensex up 265 points as buying continues

With several stocks from across various sectors, especially from metal and banking segments, trading firm with impressive gains, the key indices Sensex and Nifty50 remain high up in positive territory.

The Sensex is up 265.81 points or 0.96% at 27,154.37. The Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange is up 97 points or 1.17% at 8385.60.

Metal stocks are up sharply today with investors thronging these counters following a rally in global commodity prices.

Among the stocks in the Nifty Metal index, only MOIL is down in negative territory. At Rs 417.50, the stock is down marginally from its previous closing price.

Jindal Steel & Power, up 10.5%, is the biggest gainer. Hindalco is up 6.5%, Nalco is rising 6.2% and JSW Steel is up 6.1%. Coal India is trading 5.2% up.

Tata Steel, Bhushan Steel, Hindustan Zinc, Vedanta and NMDC are up 2% - 4%. Welcorp is up 1.7%, while APL Apollo Tubes and Orissa Minerals are modestly higher.

The NiftyMetal index is up 4.36% at 2957.55, a 52-week high. Tata Steel and JSW Steel hit new 52-week highs today.
