Sensex up nearly 150 pts @ 12:01 hrs

The market continues to trade firm with most of the components of the key benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty holding their gains on sustained buying support.

With several stocks cutting across sectors trading higher, the market breadth too remains quite strong today. The positive close on Wall Street on the back of Federal Reserve's decision to leave rates unchanged and the buoyant mood across Asian markets are keeping the bulls glued to the ring today.

The Sensex is up 148.44 points or 0.85% at 17,531.62, while the Nifty is up with a gain of 48.60 points or 0.93% at 5246.70.

Idea Cellular, Cipla, Reliance Infrastructure, SAIL, HCL Technologies, ABB, Tata Steel, Hindalco, DLF, ICICI Bank, HDFC, Wipro and GAIL India have gained 1.5% - 3%.

Tata Consultancy Services, Reliance Communications, Jaiprakash Associates, ACC, Bharti Airtel, Siemens, Punjab National Bank, Suzlon Energy and Reliance Capital are also up with notable gains.

Larsen & Toubro has announced that it has bagged a contract worth Rs 1013 crore from ONGC. The engineering giant will have single point responsibility for the complete engineering, procurement; fabrication and installation of 4 well platforms for phase II of Mumbai High North Redevelopment Project. L&T has bagged this prestigious order through an international competitive bidding process. The stock is up nearly 1.5% at Rs 1620 at present.

PSU stock Hindustan Copper has rallied sharply on impressive volumes today. The stock, which rose to Rs 491 earlier in the day, is currently up with a sharp gain of 8.25% at Rs 484.20. On BSE, the Hindustan Copper counter has recorded a volume of around 9.6 lakh shares so far in the session, much higher than an average daily volume of around 2.72 lakh shares.

Cummins India, which declined into the red after trading flat for nearly a couple of hours, has rebounded into positive territory now. At Rs 479, the stock is up nearly a percent. The stock has moved up on unusually high volumes.
