Sensex up nearly 50 points; Tata Motors, Infosys among top gainers

After moving in a very narrow range for almost three hours, the market has edged up a bit with select blue chip stocks moving higher on strong buying support.

At 18,811, the Sensex is now up 48.23 points or 0.25% from its previous closing mark. The Nifty is up 11.60 points or 0.2% at 5714.90.

Jaiprakash Associates is up nearly 4% on strong buying at the counter. On the National Stock Exchange, the Jaiprakash Associates counter has clocked a volume of over 11.6 million shares today.

Ambuja Cements has rallied 3% to Rs 208 on impressive volumes. Ultratech Cement (1.6%) and Grasim Industries (1.6%) are also up sharply, while ACC is trading weak, losing around 0.8%.

Tata Motors is up with a gain of 2.8%. Infosys is trading 2.3%. Hindalco and Reliance Infrastructure are also trading higher by over 2%. Jindal Steel & Power, BHEL, Sesa Goa, NTPC, State Bank of India, BPCL, GAIL India, Lupin, Hero Motocorp, Ranbaxy Laboratories, IDFC and Maruti Suzuki are also up with smart gains.

DLF, Bank of Baroda, Tata Power and ONGC are down 1% - 1.6%. ACC, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, HDFC, Punjab National Bank, Bajaj Auto, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and HCL Technologies are also trading weak.

Apollo Hospitals & Enterprises is trading stronger by 5.7%. Tech Mahindra is up 4.8% and Divi's Laboratories is up with a gain of 3.5%, while the other sharp movers in the Junior Nifty index, Oracle Financial Services, Yes Bank and Petronet LNG are up 2% - 3%.

Biocon, Indian Hotels, Zee Entertainment, SAIL, IDBI Bank, Bharat Forge, Bajaj Holdings, Reliance Capital, Bosch and IndusInd Bank are also up with strong gains.

LIC Housing Finance is trading nearly 4% down. JSW Steel is down with a loss of over 2%. Reliance Communications, Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports, Power Finance Corporation, Crompton Greaves and GMR Infrastructure are down 1% - 2%.
