Slow economy may impact V-day joy: Survey

New Delhi, Feb 9 (IANS) Several youngsters are trimming down their Valentine's Day plans as a result of the dampened economic state - low increments and slow promotions, according to a survey conducted by online matrimony site Jeevansathi.com.

Love birds usually have lavish plans for the special occasion Feb 14, but as many as 44 percent boys and 34 percent youngsters out of the respondents said that the underlying grim economic sentiment will impact their Valentine Day celebrations.

The trend was more prevalent in metros, where about 50 percent males said that this year they have cut down on their Valentine's Day plans, said a statement.

Commenting on the trend, Rohit Manghnani, business head, Jeevansathi.com, said: "Low increments and slower promotions within organisations has made the youngsters more practical.

However, this may not dampen the celebrations for the day as it holds a lot of importance in the lives of young couples, the spends will not be over-indulgent."

The survey saw participation of over 2,500 members of Jeevansathi.com.

When asked about how they could make this day memorable, 76 percent respondents said that they would love to plan their engagement or wedding on the same date.

In terms of gifts, the tried-and-tested flowers emerged as the most preferred option with 43 percent choosing it. Dinner dates and jewellery took the second and third spot with 22 percent and 20 percent voting, respectively.

For the boys, spending quality time with the loved one, emerged as the best way to celebrate V-day.
