Recently, at a round-table conference on climate change, RBI Deputy Governor Subir Gokarn jokingly suggested a rather innovative way of fighting global warming. Gokran said banks could reduce their carbon footprint if officials stopped wearing suits to work. By doing so, he said, banks would cut down on air conditioning — known to contribute significantly to climate change. Well, suits or no suits, we doubt if bank officials could survive the Indian summer without air conditioning at full blast.
