Tarmac delays an image problem for Conn. airport

News of passengers being stuck on airlines for hours at Connecticut's Bradley Airport during last weekend's autumn snowstorm comes as state officials try to overhaul operations at its flagship airport and attract more business.

State Sen. Gary LeBeau is the co-chairman of the legislature's Commerce Committee. He says the national attention on Bradley is not what the General Assembly had in mind when it created an airport authority to oversee and market it.

Passengers on at least four planes sat on the tarmac Oct. 29 for seven hours or more. State officials say 28 planes were diverted to Bradley by Federal Aviation Administration air traffic controllers. Five flights were able to refuel and take off.

A legislative hearing on the delays has been proposed.
