Not just for rural markets
The popularity of MUVs (Multi Utility Vehicles) is on an upswing in the country. They are also being increasingly sought over SUVs.
MPVs have been around in the Indian market from quite a long time but they were not initially launched in urban markets. A majority of these vehicles were targeted at the rural and semi-urban markets where such vehicles are used for public transport and supplying goods.
Generally, an MUV is considered as a vehicle which has off-roading capabilities, sturdy suspension, extra high chassis and capacity to carry more than eight passengers. However, companies are now trying to entice urban consumers by introducing 'easy-driving' MUV's which look stylish, suit urban environments and also perform economically in the metros.
The Qualis from Toyota, Sumo from Tata and Bolero from Mahindra have proved their mettle in urban as well as rural areas.Text
