Choosing a ticket that had his son's date of birth helped Anil Varghese Theveril, 50, win a AED 7 million (almost Rs 13 crore) lottery jackpot in Abu Dhabi.

Theveril, an Executive Assistant in Kuwait, was trying his luck with Big Ticket for the second time.

"He is my lucky charm. I purchased the ticket online and chose the number 11197 because my son's date of birth is 11/97," Varghese, 50, was quoted as saying by the Gulf-based Khaleej Times.

Anil's son, 21-year-old Rahul Varghese Theveril is doing his degree course in Kerala.

"The reality is still to sink in," Anil went on to add.

He told the paper that he had undergone a few hardships recently and was "glad it is all over."

Now, he needs to "sit down and figure out what to do with the prize money".

The BMW series 01 winner was also an Indian - Mohammad Lateef Mohammad Raees.

There were five more Indians among the seven other winners in the lucky draw.
