Chennai, Nov 1 (IANS) Powered by increased sales of its Innova and Fortuner models, carmaker Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd. registered a 14 percent sales growth last month as compared to the numbers sold during October 2011, a company statement said Thursday.
The company said it had sold 12,281 units last month -- up from 10,762 units sold in October 2011.
"We have registered a growth last month, with high sales of Innova and Fortuner (models). The market is still sluggish, especially the passenger car segment," Sandeep Singh, deputy managing director - marketing was quoted as saying in the statement.
"The SUV (sports utility vehicle) and MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) segments are comparatively better and we hope to see the market picking up, as the festive season continues," Singh said.
The company sold 5,889 Innova and 1,378 Fortuner models last month -- up from 3,411 units and 763 units, respectively, sold in October 2011.
The Etios series sold 4,596 units as compared to 5,859 units in October last year. Corolla Altis sold 332 units last month.
