New York: US stocks declined further and the Dow industrials briefly fell more than 1 per cent on Friday as investors took profits following data that showed further deterioration in the labour market and a tighter contraction in the services sector.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 59.41 points, or 0.74 per cent, to 7,918.67. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index dropped 5.31 points, or 0.64 per cent, to 829.07. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 5.90 points, or 0.37 per cent, to 1,596.73.
