Although the Redmi 1S will have an older version of Android (Jelly Bean, 4.3) out-of-the-box, it will reportedly receive the Android L update.
Xiaomi entered the Indian market last month, with the Mi 3 smartphone. The phone, which offered hardware similar to that of the Nexus 5 at half the price, sold out within seconds, in numerous flash sales on Flipkart. The online retailer also received considerable flak for underestimating the demand for the phone and resulting in a crash of its website.
