There are hardly a few hours more for Pongal 2011 Tamil releases to hit the screens.
There is total chaos in the market, as release of Vijay's Kaavalan is still hanging on the balance. Though newspaper advertisements with theatre listings and date as January 14 are appearing, none of the theatres are willing to take advance booking for the film!
Karthi's Siruthai has managed to get itself in the news by some unknown group protesting against the name of the character he plays in the film. All trade related problems have also disappeared as the film gets ready for release in nearly 250 screens in Tamil Nadu.
The film that has been silently cornering the best screens has been Dhanush's Aadukalam. It has managed to get the prime shows in all Chennai multiplexes and the best of single screens across Tamil Nadu. Sun Pictures publicity on their channel has created a big buzz around the film.
Ilaingan scripted by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi which was earlier slated for release on January 14 has wisely moved to January 15 (Pongal Day), with lots of publicity on television channels. The film has also got good screens and is releasing big.
Two other small movies Karuthakannan C/O Rekla Race and Sollitharava will fill up the rest of the left over screens and will have limited release.
Pongal 2011 promises to be an exciting battle.
