Ramanathan, the suave and polished gentleman speaks on Rajnikanth and Sivaji in an exclusive interview with Sify.com. Excerpts

Congratulations, for purchasing the Chennai city rights of Sivaji at a new record price. Please comment.

Thank you. I have paid a royalty of Rs 6.5 Crore, the highest ever price paid for any film for Chennai territory. I have paid this exorbitant price because I feel Sivaji has the potential to be a mega blockbuster of all times.

Did you watch the first copy of the film?
(Smiles) No way, I have not even seen a single shot from the film. I saw the Sivaji album, in which there are about 1000 odd stills from the film. I’m amazed, as they are simply mind-boggling, They are colourful and our superstar looks awesome. Seeing the album my mind was made to purchase the film.

Do you have any experience as a distributor?
Till 1997, I was a leading distributor in Chennai area. In fact the first film I distributed was Rajathi Raaja, a Rajnikanth film.

What is the potential of Sivaji, do you think that you will recover this exorbitant price, you have paid for it ?
Sky is the limit for Sivaji. You know that Chennai has a population of 1 Crore plus and everybody wants to see the film. A majority of the population wants to see it at least once, which means I will recover my cost and make a profit!

What are your release plans for the film?
I’m working out a strategy, which I will disclose in a few days time Let me tell you Sivaji will rock, and it will definitely create history and for the first time it will release big in 15 to 20 screens in Chennai city.
