13-year-old Shankar Mandal was caught stealing food on the sets of Soha’s upcoming film Chaarfutiya Chhokare.
Moved by his background, director Manish Harishankar offered him a lead role in the film.
The little boy apparently belongs to a family that earns its livelihood by collecting honey from trees and buildings in and around Film City .
Chaarfutiya Chhokare revolves around child criminals who are exploited by local slumlords. And so, Manish felt the boy was a perfect fit for a role in the film.
Although the crew was excited about the new character in the film, convincing the boy’s father was a tough task for them as he thought they were setting up the boy for an arrest.
However, all issues seem to have be smoothened out and Shankar got to attended a two-month workshop with three other boys before his shot in front of the camera. Now, an aspiring actor, Shankar hopes to be like Shah Rukh Khan someday.
