Much attention has been paid to the 100th year milestone of Indian cinema in 2013. There have also been movie lists to suit the occasion.
For various reasons, however, they haven’t been satisfying. The quest for a list to rely on led me to make one. Since most Indians are young – 35 years or less – it might be appropriate to think in terms of recent cinema.
And since Hindi films are watched the most in India, it might make sense to speak of Hindi cinema for the purposes of this article.
Here then are 20 modern Hindi movies you must not miss.
They are all good films; some are masterpieces. The word ‘modern’ needs to be defined because we refer to modern movies. Here, modern refers to post-liberalisation India.
The tone, tenor and character of India changed when the economy policy was liberalised. It had pan-Indian impact way beyond religion, region, caste and gender. Therefore, modern in this classification refers to 1992 and later.
