RD Raja’s 24 AM Studios is one of the most professional production houses in Kollywood .
They have successfully marketed their Sivakarthikeyan Remo all over the world. The business of the film has been complete, even before release at MG rates, which is fantastic in these difficult days.
Now they have pulled off the impossible by announcing through Twitter that they will not allow Remo to release overseas a day before its Indian release. The normal practice for overseas distributors is to have premiere shows of Tamil films on Thursday evening, ahead of India release. Now they will be able to watch Remo same day same time with its India release.
24 AM Studio has tweeted : “As a Policy all our .@24AMSTUDIOS's films will release in overseas market only after release in Tamil Nadu.1st step 2 stop leaks #Remo will release one day later n OVERSEAS market, d same day 7th October after the first show starts in Tamil Nadu”.
There is a common perception in Kollywood saying that online piracy happens only because of the early overseas premiere. In fact, several distributors had pleaded producers to open overseas shows only after theatrical release in Tamil Nadu but none of them agreed.
It is not going to be easy for 24AM Studio to implement it as overseas distributors pay astronomical amounts to have premier shows where they sell tickets at higher rates. However it is a good initiative by RD Raja, as it will not only help curb piracy but also to a certain extent stop negative feedback by vested interests through online reviews in social media.
