’36 Vayadhinile’, the remake of the Malayalam hit ‘How Old Are You’ is the much awaited comeback vehicle for Jothika and has music by Santhosh Narayanan who is fresh after having a phenomenal year with back to back success in albums like ‘Madras’,’Jigarthanda’,’Cuckoo’,’Enakkul Oruvan’. Let us see how this album has turned out:
Happy – Naalu Kazhudha
Singer: Santosh Narayanan
Despite sounding extremely similar to his previous arrangements(Enakkul Oruvan), Santhosh Narayanan wields the microphone and does the rendition for ‘Happy’ himself. The lyrics are ample fun and Santhosh’s vocals give them a new flavor. There is an accompanying keys line throughout the song and the tune itself is mighty simple and highly likeable.
Singer: Kalpana Raghavendar
‘Pogiren’ is an uplifting tune believed to inspire the lead character in the movie. Kalpana’s vocals which is similar to Nithyasree’s fits the tune aptly. The lyrics are a huge plus to the track where the composer has toned down the funkiness that is prevalent in the album. There is an accompanying violin-string section along with the visuals which makes up the interludes. Highly inspirational!
Singer: Lalitha Vijayakumar
As soon as we start listening to this number, we realize this track is definitely a wacky, entertaining & a funny one with good lyrics. Add quirky arrangements and refreshing sound quality owing to the mix. Lalitha Vijayakumar gives the track an added flavor and the lyrics are ample fun. The usage of peculiar vocals is getting too template in a Santhosh Narayanan album these days. The song has an underlying piano shift along with a cello-trumpet layer which takes care of the interludes. A terrific track to start the album though!
The album also has a bunch of background scores that come along with the audio CD. ‘Vidiyal Thedi’, which is the pick of the lot has the essence of Pogiren track in its tune and can be seen in the teaser of the movie. The ‘President’ track starts off with blow horns and trumpets and has a lighter vein compared to the rest of the background scores. ‘Kannadi’ has terrific key work followed by the violins to amplify the mood of the track. ‘Kaneer Mozhi’ & ‘Kanavugal Sumandhu’ fill up the remaining of the album with their string oriented arrangements that are bound to work well with the movie.
On the whole, Santhosh Narayanan delivers another terrific album adding to the list of his impressive filmography. Although he gets carried away and tries to be too funky with the choice of his singers in his recent albums, his tunes are fresh. ’36 Vayadhinile’ has a good collection of some catchy songs & soothing background score which is a great attribute to the movie.
