For the past few years, Tamil cinema won in several categories at National Film Awards but 2017 seems to be not a lucky year for Kollywood. Yes, at the 65th National Awards, Tamil film industry only won three awards — AR Rahman (Best Music Composer) for his songs in Kaatru Veliyidai, Shashaa Tirupati (Best Playback Singer) for Vaan Varuvan from the same film and Chezhiyan’s To Let won the Best Regional Film (Tamil).

Tamil people on the internet have been asking why Aruvi was not given any award but the film was actually censored in 2016. SR Prabhu, producer of Aruvi says he is still don’t have any clue on why the film wasn’t selected in any category at 64th National Film Awards but he got an award for Joker.

On the other hand, Malayalam Film Industry made a clean sweep at 65th National Awards and Telugu audiences are thrilled with both Baahubali 2 (three awards) and Ghazi, which won the Best Regional Film Award. Interestingly, late actress Sridevi won the National Awards for Mom but netizens say Parvathy deserved it more for her realistic performance as the pregnant nurse in Take Off. Parvathy was actually given a special mention for her performance in Take Off.
