Indian National League’s Tamil Nadu women state wing’s Chief Aarifa has filed a petition against Oviya and 90ML director Anita Udeep for degrading Tamil culture at the Chennai Police Commissioner office.
In her complaint, Aarifa also said that the film promotes alcoholism among women and the core story would wrongly guide young girls to smoke, drink, use swearing words and discuss sex.
Released on March 1, 90ML opened with good reviews from top critics. While a section of critics say that 90 ML is a cheerful film depicting the modern day women and their fun life, others are in sync with Aarifa’s complaint saying that the theme is topical but the director lost path by spicing up the film with needless double meaning dialogues, drinking and smoking scenes.
Producers in the industry also have divided opinion about the film. Popular producer Dhananjayan says 90ML will corrupt the mindset of young women “Hope & wish Dir. @anitaudeep & Producer @UdeepB watch this honest review by Dr.Abhilasha on how your film #90ML can be detrimental to our society. Please have some responsibility towards the society & don't spread venom among our youngsters to make money”, tweeted the Mr.Chandramouli producer. Later, Anita Udeep and Dhananjayan exchanged heated arguments on Twitter.
Archana Kalpathi of AGS says “Cinema is about creativity and experimenting with various genres. As producers we know the effort that goes into making one, So let us only pass on positive thoughts and wishes to other movie makers and content #JustSaying 90 ml is making waves at the BO”.
