Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha’s feel-good romantic drama 96 has taken a superb opening in Tamil Nadu. Trade sources say that in Chennai, 96 has grossed Rs 1.87 crores (approximate) which is a fantastic opening for the film in the first four days. In the USA, the film was bought for a comparatively lower price but it surprised everyone by collecting 235,000 USD and declared as a blockbuster in the trade.
What surprised everyone in the Tamil Nadu trade is that they expected the film well to do well only in ‘A’ centers but the 96 is also collecting good collections in small cities and towns.
The film’s producer Nandagopal of Madras Enterprises has sold the Telugu remake rights to ‘Dil’ Raju and talks are on the film to be remade in Hindi. Prem Kumar, the director of the film has been approached to helm the remake in Telugu but he is yet to take a final call.
