Charmi stepped in for Mamta Mohandas, who withdrew claiming she was sick. After a week's search, Kamal and Dileep zeroed in on Charmi because the character needed someone who could pull off glamour. (Charmi made her debut in Malayalam in Vinayan's Katuchemabakam before she became Telugu films' oomph girl.)
"Aagathan is a romantic suspense thriller with a great twist in the end," said Kamal. "Sathyaraj plays a retired army, General Harindranath Varma, and is the pivot around which the film revolves. Ex-Bollywood heroine Zarina Wahab plays his wife and Charmi his daughter."
Aagathan is Sathyaraj's first foray into Malayalam, though he has acted in a lot of Malayalam remakes.
"When Kamal narrated the story to me, I fell in love with my character retired - General Harindranath Varma," said Sathyaraj. "The highlight will be my scenes with Dileep, who is a fine actor."
