Kiran Rao: Mumbai, a concrete island lapped by grey sea and lashed by torrential rain, is home to fourteen million of us. More arrive on its shores every day to make their lives and fortunes.

The energies of these diverse people and their hopes coalesce into something electric and unique. And so the city has a life of its own - throbbing, vital and inclusive; and this is what inspired the film.
