One of the most popular star's in Tamil cinema, Ajith's Billa 2 directed by Chakri Toleti started rolling in Ramoji Studios in Hyderabad from today (July 14).
The film will be the costliest Ajith film ever made on a budget of $ 7 million (approximately Rs 35 Cr).
Nearly four years back Ajith had done the super hit Billa directed by Vishnuvardhan.
Billa 2 is a prequel which charts the early years of David Billa to be played by Ajith as he transforms from a Tamil Nadu small town guy into Asia's most dreaded gangster.
Mumbai model and theatre actress Huma Qureshi, and Bruna Abdullah are the two leading ladies.
Sudhanshu Pandey who played a cop in last week's super hit Murder 2 plays one of the rival gangsters and Malayalam actor Manoj K Jayan (ex-husband of actress Urvasi) also has a key role.
Billa 2 is the first Indian picture to use the Epic RED camera with 5K resolution and ace cameraman RD Rajasekhar will be the DOP.
Billa 2 is presented by IN Entertainment, a Hinduja Ventures company, with Chennai based Wide Angle Films producing it for them.
IN's Sunir Kheterpal and Wide Angle's Suresh Balaje and George Pius are the producers.
The edge of the seat action thriller will be shot in Hyderabad studio and exotic locations of Goa, Pondicherry, Thailand and Eastern Europe. IN Entertainment is planning to release it in April 2012, as Ajith's big summer release.
