Finally, 10 days after its theatrical release worldwide Kamal Haasan’s controversial Vishwaroopam has been given the clearance for a Tamil Nadu release.

Kamal Haasan on Saturday evening after deliberations with Muslim organisations opposed to the film’s release relented for some cuts and muting of some audio portions.

Kamal Haasan said at the press meet : “ I thank the state government for facilitating the talks . I have agreed to my Muslim brothers request to delete some sound clips from the film.”

The new edited version will start with a disclaimer, saying that it is a work of fiction and that it is not meant to hurt the sentiments of any section of society.

And on Sunday the Tamil Nadu government lifted the ban orders on Vishwaroopam issued under Sec 144 of Cr PC. One more deck was cleared for release as district collectors began revoking prohibitory orders following the amicable settlement.

Meanwhile the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), demanded an apology from Tamil Nadu’s Advocate General in connection with the certification of Kamal Haasan’s film Vishwaroopam.

In a statement the CBFC, Mumbai, under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, has issued a press statement saying that every action taken/procedure followed by it for Vishwaroopam or any other film has been done in accordance with the Act and Rules framed by the Parliament.

CBFC has asked Tamil Nadu’s Advocate General Navaneetha Krishnan and advocate Sankarasubbu to issue an apology for the statements made by them in this regard.

“The CBFC has been functioning since 1951 and there are judicial precedents upholding the legality of the certification process,” the statement said. In view of the above, the statement of Mr. Krishnan calling the certification process a ‘scam’is baseless, it said.
